The COPY® guide to hanging pictures on walls

The most important question before we get started: nails or dowels and screws? Hammer and nails are the easiest and quickest way to attach a framed picture to the wall. For smaller frames up to DIN A3, a nail is often sufficient. For sizes up to 50 × 70 cm, we recommend two nails. All larger frames should be fixed with dowels and screws. They are also used for smaller frames if the wall is too porous for nails. Frames larger than 120 × 140 cm should be hung on two angle brackets or our special heavy-duty hooks, depending on the condition of the wall.

STEP 1
DETERMINE POSITION AND HEIGHT

A rule used in museums states: The ideal height for pictures is 155 cm from the floor to the centre of the picture. Has the picture found its place? It’s time to determine the line on which to to drill the holes: If a second person holds the frame, you can simply slide the frame down a few millimetres and mark the centre of the frame on the wall.

STEP 2
MARK THE SUSPENSION POINTS

Measure the distance between the two suspension holes at the back of the frame, then divide this by two. Mark the centre point and place a long level on it. Measure half the distance to the left and half the distance to the right. You can now mark the suspension points. Next comes the more exciting stage of your installation.

STEP 3
DRILL HOLES AND ATTACH WALL PLUGS

Use a hammer drill to create holes at the marked points. Then insert 6 mm plugs and suitable screws. Tighten them until they protrude roughly 10 mm. You can save yourself a lot of vacuuming by tearing the supplied COPY® envelope along the perforation line and attaching it under the drill hole with masking tape.
